My favourite go-to for any occasion outfit is mostly silk. I believe incorporating silk in my wardrobe gives my outfits a delicate and sophisticated touch without being overbearing with sequins and embellished outfits. Silk pieces are perfect for something more than casual but still very effortless. I don’t like sequins and stuff for occasions like parties, dates or weddings. I would rather prefer wearing a silk blouse with matching bottoms or a silk dress. While building a capsule sustainable wardrobe, it is a convenient and sustainable way of getting dressed for occasions like parties and all. You’ll still be sustainably dressed and your capsule wardrobe will have the best classic pieces instead of fast fashion junks.
Silk shirts and blouse
Out of all silk pieces, silk shirts and blouses are my favourite pick because of their utility and practicality. I can style them differently with different bottoms according to the occasion and make the most out of it. For example, I’ve paired my silk blouse with sturdy cotton mom jeans and black pointed slingback for a casual date day. I would pair this blouse with a white or black bell-shaped calf-length skirt for a more formal date. So a silk blouse, shirt or a cami top are a very useful part of a capsule wardrobe. I love the vegan silk blouse/shirt from oh seven days I love the dreaminess of them because of the fabric and minimal abstract art printed on them. This silk cami top from Ssense is also a basic piece to invest in your capsule wardrobe. You can also go for a basic silk shirt like this one from H&M. I love this champagne basic silk shirt and the black shirt from Mango. I also love these washable black silk and beige silk shirt from Everlane and have already mentioned in my Fall Winter Capsule Closet Edition.
Silk skirt
I love wearing skirts more than anything else. I always adore bell-shaped calf-length silk skirts and will invest in one. It can be in black or champagne colour, both are neutrals and favourite to wear. Pairing a cami top or a white puff sleeves top with a silk skirt looks so feminine and every occasion appropriate. It’s rare to find a good bell-shaped silk skirt. There is a brand called Serenity on Etsy. I love their silk pieces so much, especially their skirts. They make their silk pieces with organic or peace silk which is the best thing for animal lovers and sustainability enthusiasts. They are very affordable for their luxury fabric. You can also get a silk skirt from H&M, sometimes they keep similar silk skirts as Serenity Silk and also use the peace silk.
Silk slip dress
Nothing can be more utility piece as a slip dress can be. Dress it down or up, they always look so chic and classy. They are classic as well as always in trend. It’s better to have a plain black or champagne silk slip dress. These colours are timeless and classic and always can be styled differently. For example, pair a silk cami dress with linen or a silk blazer for a formal occasion, pair with a denim jacket for a casual occasion and pair it with sleek small heels with gold hoops for a date night or party or even as a wedding guest. My favourite silk slip dresses are from Cunyan, Serenity Wear, Sezane and Ssense. I’ve also found a vintage store for an authentic silk slip dress.
Silk pants
I love the effortlessness of silk pants. They are so easy to style for work, for casual occasions or for formal occasions. Just by pairing them with silk cami tops and a matching linen or silk oversized blazer, they look so expensive and classic. And I always love classics over trends. One of my favourite YouTuber is Dearly Bethany and I love the way she incorporates her classic silk pants with her outfits. It’s a better option for tall people who actually are taller for any kind of skirt, silk pants elevate their personality even more. Love classic silk pants of Lia Pleated Silk Pants, Gucci straight pants, chandler high waist pleated pants. Also love silk pull on black, champagne trousers from Serenity and from Nordstrom. I also love these vintage finds in beige and black.
Silk blazers
A good oversized silk blazer is always a keeper. Throw it with casual jeans and top outfit or slip dress outfit, it will look magnificent and expensive. I’m a person who’s very lazy when it comes to getting ready with hair and makeup stuff. That’s why I always prefer ways to make myself look chic and put together without having curls in my hair or extra effort in my makeup and pieces like blazers help doing that. Although silk blazers can be really expensive but you can always find them comparatively cheaper if you go for vintage or thrift pieces. I recently found some really good silk blazers on Etsy’s vintage sellers, check this silk and wool blazer and Hugo boss vintage silk blazer. You can also find vintage silk blazers on sites like eBay, Depop etc. If you want to go for fresh silk Blazers check this gold-brown blazer, black silk blazer, cream silk blazer.
Apart from these silk wardrobe ensembles, one can also go for silk scarves like this chain print or the plain black silk scarf and silk scrunchies. But their wearability is not as much as the above-mentioned pieces have. So you can start investing in these five silk pieces but slowly with time. There’s no haste at all. An authentic classic wardrobe takes time to build up. Share your favourite silk ensembles in the comments below, will love to hear them out.
