Midi skirts or calf length skirts have always been saviours to me. I feel they are one of the most comfortable and feminine silhouettes. One can carry a midi skirt from casuals to formals. It is an essential piece for every type of wardrobe. Wearing A line bodycon pencil skirt can be a pain if you prefer comfort over style. We have other options too for office wear in terms of comfortability. But wearing a midi skirt for is another level of comfortability. This was the reason why I styled my midi skirt for an office day.
Types of midi skirts
Having a midi skirt depends on personal choices. Some prefer silk, linen or cotton skirts and some just buy skirts whatever they like without thinking too much. Some like colours, some prefer neutrals. I prefer mostly linen and cotton skirts because of their sustainable and breathable features. But this pleated midi skirt is from my last year purchase when I was still in my transition phase of knowing my likes regarding clothing choice. Now when I’ve found my comfortability in a neutral palette and sustainable fashion, it’s a relief knowing that, those clothes I own other than cotton, linen or silk are made of recycled old clothes.
How I styled
This black midi skirt I’ve worn is a pleated one with white geometric pattern. Having something in white or black is pretty basic side and can be easily styled with black or white clothing pieces. I got this pleated skirt for $49.99 but now it’s on a huge discount and available in just $27. I got my usual size 34 or XS. I wanted a comfortable but sleek look that’s why I paired my midi skirt with a white cotton shirt which is for just $12. And I left my cuffs open for giving this look, an element of effortlessness. I chose a pair of black slingback pumps with golden buckle detailing on front which was absolutely adding an extra element of grace and sophistication. Unfortunately, they are out of stock right now but I will link some similar ones. My office days are usually meeting where I don’t need much to keep a big size purse with me. That’s why I took my favourite white satchel bag with this look. I chose to wear gold chunky hoops of medium size which was appropriate for a minimal Office look, with some minimal makeup I was meeting ready.
Why wear a midi skirt for formals
It should be one’s choice what to wear for any occasion, for eg. I also like to wear blazer outfits for formals but I never hesitate to explore the possibilities. I can point out why I like midi skirt formals
- Comfortability- we can find our comfort in long sitting office hours.
- Easy to move in it- If you do a job where you have to run a lot like creatives, teachers, assistant director, executive producer this dress code is your friend. And it gives you the freedom of moving fast without getting worried about your tight bodycon skirt.
- Feminine look- I personally prefer the feminine look, wearing bodycon skirts are little overpowering for me. So this midi skirt formal has the right balance.
- Cinching at the right place- No matter how lean or thin we are, we have little belly pooches where we have to eat also. In that case, wearing a bodycon skirt outfit can be a little uneasy and unbreathable, also body shape doesn’t look flattering. Midi skirt is the key solution here which cinches the waistline at the right place and hides all unnecessary features.
So those were the key features of wearing a midi skirt for a formal day. But fashion is all about your inner confidence and self-esteem where whatever you wear, take it with positivity and also appreciate yourself for doing all this. Every article I write, I share my personal experiences and exploration regarding fashion and style and imposing or influence anyone of readers is not the mission. I would suggest you do the same before adopting any kind of fashion or lifestyle. You don’t need to make a hole in your pocket in order to get everything someone has influenced you to.
On this note, I’m leaving hoping that you all will consider exploring fashion more in terms of sustainability, productivity and reasonability.4
